Amatto Zaharia (Romania) is an international sports administrator and consultant with extensive experience in combat sports and sport governance. With a professional background spanning several decades as both an athlete and senior sports administrator, he has contributed to the institutional development, regulation, and international coordination of Kempo at international level.
Active in martial sports since 1978, he played a decisive role in the unification of international organizations practicing Kempo, also known as Kenpo in certain regions, and is a founding member of the International Kempo Federation.
Amatto Zaharia served as Vice-President of the International Kempo Federation from 2002 to 2009, as Executive-President from 2009 to 2018, and has held the position of President of the International Kempo Federation since 2018, providing strategic leadership, ensuring institutional continuity, and overseeing organizational consolidation in accordance with internationally recognized governance principles.
He was also a Member of the Executive Committee of the Romanian Olympic and Sports Committee from 2016 to 2024, contributing to policy development, strategic planning, and governance processes aligned with the Olympic Movement.
Throughout his career, Amatto Zaharia has been actively involved in good governance, regulatory compliance, and international cooperation. His work includes the development and oversight of educational and capacity-building programs for coaches, referees, and administrators, as well as the coordination of youth-oriented sport development and promotion initiatives aimed at increasing participation, education, and access to sport among young people, in line with the principles of inclusive sport development. He has also supported the implementation of institutional frameworks related to Ethics, Fair Play, Clean Sport, Anti-Doping, Gender Equality, Prevention of Violence in Sport, and Sport for All, aligned with the World Anti-Doping Code and internationally recognized best practices in sport governance.
In recognition of his contributions to sport, Amatto Zaharia was named Laureate of Romanian Sport in 2007 and 2008 by the Romanian Ministry of Sport, and was also conferred the Order of Sporting Merit by the President of Romania in 2004.
